A TYPICAL CONVo WITH A NEW VERTIGO USER AKA FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS VERTIGO?
At its most basic, Vertigo is an app that makes music social. We allow you to listen to music with your friends live together in real-time.
SO, YOU CAN LISTEN TOGETHER. WHAT ELSE MAKES IT SOCIAL?
When listening to music together live, Vertigo also allows you to add videos, photos, and live chat over the music you’re listening to. Not listening live? You can post photos, videos, and audio clips with music to the feed and profile.
COOL. I DOWNLOADED VERTIGO, BUT NOW I’M IN THE APP AND CAN’T HEAR ANYTHING. WHAT’S UP?
We’re pretty big fans of music and the artists that create it. To make sure they get their due, we have integrations with Apple Music and Spotify Premium so all streams run through their systems. You’ll need to connect a premium streaming provider to listen to music in Vertigo.
I HAVE APPLE MUSIC AND MY FRIEND HAS SPOTIFY PREMIUM. CAN WE STILL LISTEN TOGETHER?
Yes! You’ll access the songs from your individual streaming account, but Vertigo makes sure you both hear the songs at the same time, so you keep listening beat-for-beat.
GREAT! HOW DO WE LISTEN TOGETHER?
We’re glad you asked. All this starts with a basic answer: One of you needs to start a live mixer.
WHAT'S A LIVE MIXER?
A live mixer is basically for your own live DJ session. It happens when a user chooses to share their music with others on Vertigo. During a live mixer, you’re able to listen to music and chat live with friends while adding in live video and photos in real-time.
HOW DO I START A LIVE MIXER?
Starting a mixer is easy! Just play a song, swipe right to the friends screen, tap “Start Your Mixer” then add your friends! You’ll know you’re live if you see the X next to your profile icon at the top left on the homescreen.
I SEE THE X, BUT WHAT DOES THE ICON NEXT TO IT MEAN?
Great question! World allows anyone in the app to listen in on your live mixer, friends only allows friends to listen, and ghost provides a private listening experience. Set your status before you start a mixer to decide who can listen with you!
WHAT SHOULD I PLAY IN MY LIVE MIXER?
Try choosing a playlist to make things easy. You can shuffle songs or arrange the order in the queue for a truly curated experience. Not in the mood to decide? Leave it up to your friends to select the music by opening up your shared queue.
WHAT’S A SHARED QUEUE?
A shared queue allows anyone in your live mixer to add songs to your session. To allow a shared queue, simply tap the button with three stripes on the mini player. Tap unlock your mix. Now friends can vote and add songs they want to hear!
WHAT CAN I DO IN A LIVE MIXER?
You can play music, add photos and live video, as well as chat along with those listening with you.
HOW DO I JOIN SOMEONE ELSE’S LIVE MIXER?
Make sure your push notifications are on to get alerts when your friends go live! You can join from the alert, swipe right to see friends that are live, or swipe left to see mixers that are trending in our Discover section. Simply tap the mixer you want to join and you’re in.
WAIT, SO WHAT’S ALL THIS IN THE DISCOVER SECTION?
We’re glad you asked! In the Discover section of the app, you’ll find trending live mixers happening in real-time, featured moments from users, as well as featured users, playlists, and artists that are hot right now!
WHAT’S A MOMENT?
Have you ever wanted to add a soundtrack to your life? Well, Vertigo doesn’t stop with live mixers. Moments allow you to post content with music attached! Want to reminisce on that epic concert you went to last weekend? Post a photo with your favorite song attached.
HOW DO I POST A MOMENT?
Select the song you want to add to your photo or video. Then, swipe down to take or upload a photo or video. When you’re done, share to your feed with a caption!
WHERE DO I FIND MOMENTS?
To find your own moments, go to your profile to see them posted on your activity wall. To find moments posted by other users, swipe up from the home screen to see following and trending.
I’M AN ARTIST, SHOULD I BE USING VERTIGO?
Yes, yes, yes! The benefits for artists are unlike any app out there. Not only are you able to connect with fans on a personal level, but you’ll gain incremental streams in your live mixers. Because each listener is pulling from a legal access point, each listener counts as a stream.
Long story short. Jamming out to a live mixer with 100 listeners? That’s 100 streams attributed to the song you all are listening to.
